Romain: The Philosophical Data Scientist Shaping Healthcare Marketing's Future

At the intersection of data science, healthcare, and marketing lies a unique talent – Romain Bogaerts, Swoop's Vice President of Product. Romain embodies the innovative spirit that drives Swoop's mission to transform omnichannel healthcare advertising with a privacy-first mindset.

Originally from Belgium, his prowess on the tennis court brought him to the United States on a scholarship to Wake Forest University. “I played an insane amount of tennis all around the world,” Romain said. After finishing his bachelors degree, he earned a Master of Science in Statistics focused on Machine Learning, laying the foundation for his future in data-driven decision making.

Before joining Swoop, Romain honed his skills at CVS Health, where he led a team of 20 in building machine learning and AI solutions. This experience, combined with his deep understanding of the complex relationships between patients, insurance companies, hospitals, and pharmacies, made him an ideal fit for Swoop.

As VP of Product at Swoop, Romain leads with a unique philosophical perspective on AI, healthcare data, and consumer behavior. His leadership has been instrumental in launching multiple groundbreaking products in just three years, including the Generative AI platform Swoop Piper and Swoop's internal AI assistants.

“At its core, my job at Swoop is being an innovator and building a rockstar team of innovators,” Romain said. “That’s what gets me and gets me excited every day. We work hard to build exciting things.”

Recognized as a trailblazer in the MM+M 40 Under 40 class of 2025, Romain is also passionate about educating marketers and technologists. He's spoken at industry events like AI Deciphered and SXSW, helping pharma marketers understand how to leverage AI effectively. His recent talk at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications showcased his commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry.

“It’s super important for us to understand how the next generation interacts with technology,” Romain said. “They are so digitally savvy, and they use AI more than any other generation.” 

 

Outside of the office, Romain continues to play tennis and tries to swim daily. He loves traveling around the world and learning new languages, currently working on Portuguese. He enjoys reading slavic literature as well as nonfiction about sociology and economics. 

As healthcare marketing continues to evolve, Romain stands at the forefront, championing the ethical deployment of AI solutions that address emerging security and privacy challenges. His work at Swoop is not just about improving marketing strategies – it's about creating a more informed world that benefits both patients and physicians.
