Dr. Duré Hussain: A Physician’s Insight, A Digital Innovator’s Vision
Bridging the gap between the exam room and the digital world to empower patients.
For Swoop’s VP Medical Strategy and Commercial Consulting Dr. Duré Hussain the drive to innovate healthcare marketing began in an exam room. After earning her medical degree, she spent time in clinical practice. This direct patient work sparked a powerful realization: working in digital health could impact thousands of lives, far beyond the hundreds she could see in a clinical career.
“Our experiences with patients needed to be reflected where patients actually go for information—online,” Duré said.
From her clinical work, she knew patients often feel anxious during appointments, forget up to 70 percent of the doctor’s discussion, and hesitate to ask sensitive questions. Providing a responsible, medically-sound alternative to Dr. Google became her mission.
This prompted a transition from clinical practice into conversational AI, where she began building bridges between medical knowledge and artificial intelligence. Duré designed frameworks for training medical chatbots in the highly regulated pharmaceutical industry and her work converted unstructured medical content into data suitable for deep learning.
This unique blend of clinical insight and AI expertise is central to her role at Swoop. Here she collaborates across teams from audience solutions to patient communities to create a holistic and empathetic experience. For example her recent research which inspired the whitepaper, From Whispers to Wisdom: AI’s Role in Demystifying IUD Conversations. By analyzing nearly 10,000 conversations with an AI agent, her team uncovered critical questions that patients were afraid to ask in person.
“The agent offered this anonymity,” she explained. “The insights were so illuminating that the manufacturer updated their campaigns to address what was really on patients’ minds.”
Outside of work, Duré is a film connoisseur and in cinema, she sees a direct parallel to her work. “In film, you bring together experts to tell a story and help us empathize with the protagonist,” she said. “Similarly, we have to be empathetic in healthcare to understand that doctors don’t have enough hours in the day, and patients don’t always know what to ask.”
Dr. Duré Hussain combines her physician’s deep understanding of the patient journey with the technical vision of a digital innovator for Swoop clients and partners every day.
