Eric: Pioneering Patient Engagement and Education

Eric Peacock's journey from consulting and tech to healthcare all started with a book about genetics. A graduate of Harvard University and Stanford Graduate School of Business and former strategy consulting partner and executive at E*Trade, Eric’s passion for healthcare was ignited by "Genome: The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters."

Inspired by the scientific breakthroughs, Eric left E*Trade to work in business development for genetics startup Perlegen Sciences. There Eric had the incredible opportunity to learn genetics from the person who first sequenced chromosome 22, and then partner with pharmaceutical companies and leading researchers on some of the first large-scale genetic studies of disease. This experience deepened his understanding of genetic research, the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, and – most important – the needs of patients facing chronic diseases.

He saw firsthand the struggles people face in understanding the diagnoses and treatments for rare and chronic conditions in his work. In 2011, Eric and Mary Ray created a social network for parents of individuals with autism, and the community grew exponentially. As their innovation drew national attention, other communities raised their hands asking for a space to connect. What started as an idea to help patients connect, grew into the largest set of patient communities in chronic and rare diseases with 64+ communities. Now serving 30 million people with community, medically-approved content, and safe support, MyHealthTeam was acquired by Swoop was acquired by Swoop in January 2025.

Eric brings his empowering and transparent leadership style to Swoop where he will continue to innovate solutions for patients and caregivers as Chief Patient Officer, while also managing and growing MyHealthTeam. For 12 years, Eric watched his team grow around MyHealthTeam’s values of transparency, respect, and a patient-first focus, and he continues to cultivate a passionate team dedicated to advancing the company’s mission as part of Swoop. “The thing I”m most proud of is the team we’ve built and the growth they’ve experienced,” Eric said.

As someone diagnosed with vitiligo and a member of the MyVitiligoTeam community, Eric uses his own product joining conversations in the community, and learning about new treatments and research. “The most important thing we can do is fall in love with the problems patients face, not fall in love with our own product,” Eric explained. “What people facing chronic conditions want to know more than anything else is what is coming around the next corner and how do I best prepare?” This was one of the main attractions of joining Swoop for Eric. “It’s incredibly exciting to see how we can bring the data and AI capabilities within Swoop to bear on behalf of patients,” he said. “We have a very real opportunity to improve outcomes for millions of people facing chronic conditions.”

Eric’s leadership in patient engagement and patient education is widely recognized, earning him accolades such as the PM360 Elite 100 in 2025 and 2018 and a DTC Innovator award in 2019. He has served as a board member for Caring for Carcinoid, now called the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation. His insights are regularly featured in publications like FiercePharma and MobiHealthNews, and as a frequent speaker at conferences such as MM&M Transform, Cannes Lions, Reuter’s Pharma USA, SXSW.

Eric and his wife Karen live in San Carlos, CA, with their daughter, and goldendoodle Buddy. He loves to watch his son, a junior at the University of Virginia, play saxophone in a professional rock band.
